On the road to InterBike 2006
by Rob Blue on September 28th, 2006
It’s that time of the year again for all of the bike nuts to congregate in Las Vegas for the cycling industry’s big trade show, InterBike. If you have never been and you are a gear junkie like me, you owe it to yourself to figure out how to go at least once. Row after row of eye candy.
This year I decided to go for one day only. The show is way too exhausting for me and I work freelance so if I’m not at my day job, I’m not getting paid. So one day it is but I decided that I didn’t want to do the drive at 8 pm Thursday night getting in after midnight so I took an additional half day off so Mikel and I could head out after lunch. I must admit that this earlier departure was really to be able to take my buddy Scott and his family out for pizza when we got in.
I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and pizza is a staple of everyone’s diet in the Windy City. My favorite pizza place, Aurelio’s, is in Homewood, IL and my parents started bring me there as soon as I started eating solid food. Over the years the Aurelio family has opened dozens of pizza places across the country and Las Vegas has two locations. These are as close to Los Angeles as it gets, at least until I decide to open my own.
The drive out was uneventful with Mikel and I once again being amazed at the “whole lot of nothing” that exists outside of Los Angeles. You get so used to being surrounded by 12 million neighbors that being in the middle of the desert is very strange.
With no traffic and some Hemi SRT-8 power we made it in time for dinner. The pizza was awesome, not exactly the same as the original Homewood version but close enough.
