November Heat Wave
by Rob Blue on November 5th, 2006
Just when I thought it was time to start pulling out the cold weather gear here in Los Angeles, the Santa Ana winds start blowing. That means it’s around 90 degrees again on my favorite local trails. That would be really nice except that on the warm weekends like this the trails have a lot of foot traffic. No blazing down the single track feeling safe that you are the only one out there. It’s probably not all bad since it makes me slow down a bit since I have a tendency to overtrain.
I hooked up with my buddy Zach and we hit part of the Backbone trail off of Kanan. I was supposed to be at work (yes, on a Sunday) so we just did a short out and back so I could get to my job at some point while the sun was still up. I love the Backbone trail. I really need to work on my technique over the winter since I have gotten a bit sloppy this year with my lack of racing and the Backbone offers up pretty much everything an XC racer could hope for. It’s also really close to my house so getting to it is not a problem.
