Firestone Race Report

by Brandon Bittorf on May 2nd, 2007

Wow, what a weekend. Norba National #2, Firestone. I was feeling pretty good going into the weekend. Fresh new tires from Kenda, and all the support one could ask for from EVOMO. I arrived on Saturday to check things out and try to help Bryan out.

Oh the heat.. Well, I had some lunch and sat around talking to Bryan, his brother and the four beautiful Kenda girls. I then decided to go out and check out the sweet course. After returning to the EVOMO tent and getting cleaned up Bryan had told me that Sedrik had invited the team for a beer at the Firestone brewery. Bryan was busy with the booth and family so I decided to venture on over to meet Sedrik.

I could not believe it, there he was in the back corner, Sedrik Vomir and two of the four Kenda girls that I met earlier in the day, having a couple of beers and some tasty nachos. Sedrik was talking for hours about all the work that he has been doing over in Europe and how he really misses hanging out and riding with the team. I felt so honored hanging out with Sedrik. He started giving me racing tactics and all sorts of great stuff that I will never forget. Sedrik bought us another round. Now we were hungry and had to have dinner. We ordered some more Firestones and let me tell you those two Kenda gals were putting the beer away. After dinner Sedrik made a pack with me that he would be honored to feed me for Sunday’s race. It had been a long day so now I needed to get back home and get some shut eye.

Sunday arrived and it was it was a day for racing, warm-up went well, yet only two of the Kenda girls had stopped by during my warm-up.

Oh well, two is better than none and they gave me their blessing. I kept asking if anybody had heard from Sedrik. He was MIA from the team tent and later, from the feed zone as well. Luckily Mikel stepped it up and was there with some fresh bottles. All in all, the race went well, I did have another front derailleur malfunction but that should be worked out by this Saturday.

After the race and refueling I realized that Sedrik was not the only one MIA, the two Kenda ladies Sedrik was with at the brewery were not at Sunday’s race either. Well it really does not take much to figure that one out. Sedrik Vomir’s reputation in Europe is legendary so I am sure those three had a night that will go down in history. See you at Fontana.

[…] I don’t even show up to the races half the time. Its not something I am exactly proud of, it just a fact of my existence, I think. It’s not even something I do on purpose. Ok so the last race, I know I was supposed to go and work the feed zone for the guys, but you gotta understand the Kenda girls are mighty foxy and sometime I get distracted by pretty girls - well most of the time, but ok. I understand, enough with the excuses. I know the bros at Evomo have money on me betting I wont show, but I will… I think. […]
