Evomo MTB Team Update

by Sedrik Vomir on June 10th, 2007

Its hard to believe, but we are already 1/2 way through June and its officially summer. Well its been summer here in SoCal for about 4 months now so for the rest of the states here is to a nice mild summer with great rides and fun races.

Now for the good stuff. Evomo Mountain Bike Team Riders have been representing the Evomo style all across the US including some talented bloaks right here in California. The rest of you had better get your Evomo on so I have more news to post on this blog.
Our semi-pro team mate from Durango, Colorado - Walker Thompson was recently at the 19th Annual Chile Challenge in Angel Fire, New Mexico. (Love that place). He pulled in a 24th place at the semi-pro xc race there. He was also spotted at the Dusk ’till Dawn 12 hour enduro race in New Mexico. Thanks to our friend James E. Rickman of Mountain Flyer Magazine for snagging this pic of Walker.

Evomo was represented in the Mountain Cross as well. Garret Carney, who drove all they way from California, won First place in beginner 15-18. Garret was snagged in action by James Rickman blasting his way down the mountain. Nice jersey Garret! Nice shot James! I think James is pro all they way. One thing I noticed about his photos is they are not shit. A lot guys I run into think they are photographers but they are really just dudes with cameras. Seriously check out that Mountain Flyer mag too. Its got real stories in it and not a bunch of fluff and lame reviews on overly priced bikes and shit.

Since we are on the topic of the Chile Challenge and Mexicans, I had a chille challenge of my own last night. So I went out to the local Mexican restaraunt called Don Cuco in Glendale with Bryan and a couple of the Evomo bloaks and had some mean authentic Mexican food. Seriously great food. Well, now I am paying for it out my ass not to mention one to many Coronas.
Local DH Team Racer Michael Takahashi wins the California State DH Championships in overall points. Takahashi is one cool dude. I would describe him as mountain biking Ninja. He has some black arts Japanese kung-fu shit he can do while riding and you wont even know what happened until its too late and he has won the race. By the way, Fontana is a dump and that course they make the cross country riders race on is straight out of the Running Man movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Anyways, here is his race report from the Fontana Race:

I’d never ridden in Fontana, had just seen pictures of what looked to be a fun course. I made the 9 hour trek down on Friday evening with my 2 kids, and then stayed at my dad’s house down there… The next morning I brought my kids and dad along as my support team, and spent Saturday morning and early afternoon shuttling to the top and getting some practice runs in. The Course was about 1.4 miles long, had a few tight turns and fast sections up top, and then dropped into the more technical section of the course, which consisted of an opening rock garden, and then navigating and riding on top of large boulders, followed by a steep loose section with a 90 degree turn at the bottom.
The course finished up with a fast - fairly flat and rolling section with large rocks to ride and jump over. They decided to cut the course a little short - eliminating the dreaded “wall” section where riders pedal a fairly flat trail along the side of a concrete wall which encloses a housing development. Many people were happy they cut this section out, but I on the other hand was a little disappointed because I was hoping the hard work I’ve been putting in training this season would have given me a pedaling advantage on this sprint to the finish.
As it turns out, I still ended up winning the race on Sunday (combined time of 2 runs,) and winning the overall California State DH Title which took into consideration the results of the Woodward West - Tehachapi Race back in April and this Southridge - Fontana race.

David Scott in Mc Bain, Indiana sent us this pic after a racing the Hanson Hills Challenge in Grayling, MI. With heavy rain all day, the race turned into a 10 mile mud fest!! David Scott finished 7th out of 16 in my class and had this to say: “I can still feel the dirt in my mouth:)” Thats bloody awesome and thats what mountain biking is all about - having fun, getting a little dirty and nobody gets hurt. Now that I think about it, thats pretty much how I like a night out in Hollywood to go. Did someone say free drinks?

Well David over in Indiana had a not so muddy experience because the kids up at NorCal have got him beat by about 20 strippers naked and wrestling in mud or rather chocolate and brownie chunks. Mmmmm Brownies. Okay enough of that. So the results these kids pulled in are pretty awesome, but I am more impressed with the photos of their battle with mud.
Overall results norcal high school leagueFremont composite (NRL MTB Racing Team): 9th place of 19 teams
  • Nitish Nag: 11th place (varsity) out of 34 riders
  • Marcelo Quiroz: 20th place (JV) out of 90 riders
  • Nicole Ogata: 15th place (JV girls) out of 16 riders
  • Ryan Conway: 68th place (Sophmore) out of 83 riders
  • Austin Roberts: 10th place (Freshmen) out of 48 riders

Not exactly a race report, but I had to run this up the ole brass stripper pole since we have a lot of fans out there. Josh Palmer from across the pond (almost in my neck of the woods) we call it England. btw. ManUtd blows goats ;-) Okay so as I was saying our English man Sir Josh sent us this massive pic of him gapping some nuclear waster drainage ditch out side Man Uniteds practice field. Ok, ok. so I made the nuclear waster part up… but Josh tells us its a 30 footer. Nice. Plus he took the liberty of adding some sick Evomo graphics to his pic.
Thanks mate.

Thanks to all the Evomo Team Riders and sponsored racers out there riding Evomo style!
