Turner Bikes!
by Rob Blue on July 7th, 2007
Today is lucky 7/7/07 and we have some great news to share. The Evomo Mountain Bike Team is proud to announce that Turner Bikes is now our official bike supplier.
The company that is unfortunately on our team kits pretty much blew us off. After we figured out that we were being ignored we decided that we needed to refocus on what was important to us as riders. Quite honestly, we were lured into believing a lot of hype. We thought we could be a part of something that really does not exist with a big company, a sense of community.
A couple of years ago when we first got the idea to start our own team our goal was to find a California based bike company to not just sponsor us but to work together with us as partners in helping to nurture and grow the sport we love so much. At that point, Monty at Helen’s Cycles turned me on to Turner Bikes. Dave Turner’s bikes really impressed me. I immediately bought a Nitrous for myself and started riding and racing it. I have owned and ridden many other full suspension XC racing bikes and by far the design of the Nitrous made the most sense and in the real world performed the best out of all of them.
Once the plans for the first Evomo MTB Team started to gain momentum I decided to call Dave Turner and see if he was interested in sponsoring us. I still remember how cool that conversation was. Dave is a nice guy who doesn’t play games and tells you what he really thinks. How refreshing to talk to a regular guy without having to read between the lines and guess what the real deal is.
Turner Bikes and the Team were all set to work together but at the last moment the Team fell apart. That is a story in itself that I won’t get into in this post. It was a crushing blow to me to have to call all of the great sponsors that we had started to work with and tell them that things were not going to happen. Dave was really supportive and told me to let him know if we worked things out. It took another year but we did work things out and started our Team on a much smaller and easier to manage scale.
Of course if you have followed our team blog you know that the saying “that’s racing” has definitely applied to our first year. Very few things have gone as planned yet everybody’s attitude has been to just roll with it and enjoy the ride. The Team is learning as we go and looking forward to the rest of our long season here on the West Coast and expanding the team for next season.
Thanks to Dave and Jarett at Turner Bikes, for the rest of this season and beyond the XC guys here on the West Coast are going to be riding some really cool Nitrous frames.
We decided to go with the industrial look and got matching Raw finishes. I guess you could call it matching lack of finishes. I was pretty excited when the box arrived this past week.
It was fitting that we got our bikes around the 4th of July.
Dave and Jarett hooked us up with some socks as well that just happen to be made by our friends at SockGuy.
Check out how cool all of the exposed welds look. The workmanship is awesome.
We are all chomping at the bit to get the bikes built. I will definitely post about the process of putting it all together.
Our thanks go out to Dave and Jarett and everyone else at Turner Bikes for their support. We are looking forward to working with the Turner crew at our local mountain bike events. I can’t say enough about how cool it is that Turner Bikes is right here in Southern California. Good neighbors to have for sure.

these bikes look awesome with the raw finish! I can’t wait to get mine built up… next step - order me some Stans Olympics!
Turner makes top of the line bikes…..I’ve been passed by lots of them!
HOLY FREAKIN’ SMOKES!
That is uber cool! Congrats on the sponsorship! Bryan, I’m going to have to see if you could hook me up with a contact info so we can do a company profile on them.
WOW!
