Mud and Rain Frenzy in Flag
by Matthew Connors on October 4th, 2007
The Sunday before last there was the Flagstaff Fall Frenzy race. This is the first race that I was ready 100% for in a long time. Things were not looking good though because the night before it was raining so hard in Flag. I got up there and it was cold and muddy two things that I don’t like too much. So I’m looking around to see who’s there and who’s looking strong. There where a lot of people from Flag and I was scared but ready. The race time came and I got my spot on the start line, the last 15 seconds to the start I was ready to kick some butt. They started all sport, expert and simi-pro riders together and wow, that was a lot of riders. They said go and I took off. Two semi-pro riders and one expert rider put on the speed and I knew I had to go with them. Within one mile we dropped the rest of the field. Our race was 25 miles so I knew it was going to be like 2 hours, so I gave it all I had for the whole 2 hours. the mud was bad but my Kenda tires hooked up great and I never popped out of my Crank Brothers pedals. The laps wound down and I stayed right with the other expert rider but the last lap I was shutting down but I never gave up, I wanted this race bad but I fell short. I finished in 2nd place for 19-39 expert. That was the first of many podiums in the 19-39 expert class. I was happy I beat a lot of locals that ride these trails all the time. I can’t wait to have some more races to show everyone what I’m all about. They had better train hard and bring it cause I am.

Right on! Taking it to the locals at altitude, bad ass. You are going to have a great ‘08 season.
