La Ruta 2007
by Rob Blue on November 15th, 2007
La Ruta De Los Conquistadores is under way once again in Costa Rica. This race is an epic event that I have wanted to do for a couple of years now but so far I have not been able to get it together. Maybe next year? Outside of my crazy work schedule which currently has me working seven days a week with a minimum 12 hours per day in a mad dash to finish National Treasure: Book Of Secrets, I have yet to convince any of my riding buddies to go with me and I really don’t want to fly down there by myself. Everyone I ask to go looks at me like I’m crazy.
Maybe I am a little crazy for wanting to do La Ruta but that is the kind of event that you will remember for the rest of your life. Telling stories about epic mountain bike adventures is a hell of a lot more exciting than my current stories of how many hours I have sat in front of my computer at work pushing pixels around. Nobody wants to hear about that stuff.
For the time being it looks like I will have to experience La Ruta through the riders who have got it together. Our buddy Jason First from Crank Brothers is racing it so I will follow his progress.

Hey Rob - Why not go on your own? I travelled from the UK to do la Ruta on my own this year and it was a fantastic experience. It was really pushing the limit for me, but I finished in just under 41 hours. Go and do it! You will not regret it. It’s well organised and everyone is very friendly. Being on your own is not a problem.
