Getting Ready For The Evomo Season
by Walker Thompson on February 10th, 2008
Well… Well… Well… If it isn’t the beginnings of another cycling season. If I had a dollar for every time I’ve thought: this season is going to be different; I’d have about $20. With that kind of money, I could rule the world. Alright, seriously, is this season going to be ANY different than last? ‘
Well, first it takes thinking about what I didn’t like about last year:
Didn’t Like #1: Too much work. I was working 70-hour weeks (like this year is any different) and the desire to race after a week like that was not high! The truth is I didn’t really like my job, so it was just hard on my soul.
How I’m Going To Remedy: First off, I like my new job and I’m also doing my own thing, so I have my self to blame.
Didn’t Like #2: Not being focused on results. Team, I’m all about THE RIDE. I just want to get out and ride EVERY day. I don’t care about off days and resting.
How I’m Going To Remedy: I’m not. I don’t care. I’m going to still ride. No matter what people tell me or what I tell myself about off days, they just aren’t going to happen. LONG LIVE OVER TRAINING!!!
Didn’t Like #3: The weather. Last year was wet.
How I’m Going To Remedy: if there is any chance of race thunderstorms (and they are serious out here), I’m going to bail. I’m so sick of getting caught in the freezing rain and mud. If I don’t race, I’m going to cover my body in Evomo stickers and call myself EVOMOMAN…

1. Too much work - yes i suffer from the same problem… in fact I just finished a week of working until 2am every day then up at 6a with my son, need to work less ride more.
2. the only result I have ever had for myself was to finish the race. in fact the only results I have ever ask of the TEAM is to just show up and hang out, have a good time and if you race, dont die and try real hard not to get hurt. its all about having fun.
3. I am spoiled by 360 days of sun here in LA, so any slight change in that and I am staying in bed… ask Rob, I will never forget going on that Las Virgines ride: MUD, rain, MUD and more MUD… it was terrible.
So, dude, we are on the same page… what a team we are!
EVOMO! ps. new ‘08 team shorts are here… kits are being mailed out on monday.
