When good ideas go bad

by Travis Hosman on April 10th, 2008

For the record I’m an obstinate bastard, and you only need to ask Clint to find out just how obstinate. A couple of weeks ago I posted white trash solutionswith a couple of interesting solutions to non-problems.  I’m Kinda like the guy that would build a 4×4 Corvette, just for the hell of it.

So when I posted about my road Tubeless idea I totally expected either spectacular awesomeness, or spectacular failure. So the tire held 100psi for about 45 minutes. Then I’m doing one of my favorite climbs in a quiet residential neighborhood, where allot of older folks like hiking there dogs and such. As I reach the top of the climb A massive explosion occurs, as loud as both barrel’s of my 12 gauge lettin loose in a street fight.  One older gentleman about 50 feet away ducks his head, and his dog starts yelping like I kicked him in the ribs or something. Seriously though I felt the concussion when it blew in my chest. The old dude came over and explained how it reminded him of Korea, and scolded his dog for being such a sissy, he was a super nice guy.

Surprisingly no one lost any fingers or limbs, and the tire was also fine it just blew off the rim. So I was able to put a tube in and roll home.  In the mean time Ill be thinking of other ways I can wreck perfectly good equipment.

thats what training in the hood is all about, unexpected gun fire and explosions.

    keeping it real.

I think the bead on the tubeless specific road tires is much stronger and will hold a whole lot better.
