The Whiskey 50 map.

With almost 7000 feet of climbing in store for tomorrow I’m eating my wheaties today. I am again bummed that I will not have any pictures of the whole thing from the riders perspective.
But if you look at that second climb from the middle up you can get a fair idea of how gnarly that climb is. It isn’t like a nice trail that skirts the side of a mountain looking for the easiest pass. No this one goes right to the very top of the mountain before sending you back down.
Bryan asked the other week where all the people are at for the NMBS races, chances are they are all at the Epic Rides events. You guys have to come to the great state of Arizona just for a taste of the future. Kind of like Buck Rodgers but without the cool clothing.

You know, I said last year that I was going to come out for this year’s Whiskey 50 and I can’t make it since I was up at Sea Otter last weekend and I only have so many Get Out Of Jail Free points for the year. I agree that right now the whole XC thing is dying. There are no young riders coming up the ranks. The epic stuff is where all the action is and that’s what I am going to concentrate on for next season. So, good luck and see you there next year.

As a good sign of how much people love these types of events last year 200 people did the whole 50 mile race. That thing is way harder then any NMBS race but people come to it. These all aren’t the pro-e-proersons either, these are your everyday riders out for a good time like mountain bike racing used to be.

The Whiskey reminds me of the Chequamegon up here in Wisconsin so it sounds like a good time. XC racing is definitely losing some steam for sure but here in Wisconsin the WORS series still draws close to 1000 racers at each stop of the 12 race series. The younger age groups seem to be getting smaller but the 40+ crowd is definitely growing the series.
