Mixing it up with the primitives.

by Clint Hosman on May 22nd, 2008

So I know a few months ago a referred to people who run as primitives but……I bought a pair of trail running shoes and actually “cross trained” this week by starting to run a little. There are a couple reasons for this which I will list in order of importance.

#1 I have done nothing but ride a bike for the last 10 months and I need a little break and while looking for a new athletic endeavor one that includes revealing clothing is high on my list. Runners shorts are short, I mean really short and I love it. Don’t worry I will be getting a Speedo soon as well.

#2 Shonny V runs in Xterra events so in an effort to look like a real pro I should do what they do.

#3 I need to do some weight bearing activity. I have noticed in hikes that my joints have gotten weaker and weaker over the last few years and so I need to build it back up.

#4 I am an “athlete” I should be able to run. The few times I have attempted it over the last few years it has been embarrassing. I used to run cross country in high school and was actually pretty good at it. My running over the last few years was limited to running into MacDonald’s before they shut down breakfast for the mornings. When I would do this my wife would mock me saying I looked like I ran like I was riding a bike.

When I bought my new shoes though I was loyal to a company that makes cycling clothing and went with these sweet Pearl Izumi’s. So far they feel great; I just wish I could say the same for my newly pulled groin.

Sounds cool. I tried the whole running thing but it killed my hip when running on pavement. Its a pretty common injury from what I can tell. Its very frustrating when your body breaks down before your endurance does if you are not conditioned to run. Never really got into the whole trail running thing as I figured that if I bothered traveling all the way out to the trails, I might as well bring my bike and have fun.

You have to force yourself to take it easy for a long time and I really didn’t have the patience for that. On my road bike I can burn myself out on a 30 mile sprint-fest and bounce back the next day with a nice recovery ride. Not so much with running.

i dont like running… although if I was being chased by a mountain lion or like when I was in Durango, CO… a puma, then yes I love to run. I pretty much only run when I dont want to be eaten.

Yea the whole going slow for a while until the body gets used to it is for the birds. I want speed NOW! Like on my bike.

once i was in Norfolk, VA and i was at a bar called the shooters. i was little drunk and when i came out there was this hot chick and she was like, hey you want to go home? Me? hellez yeaz, i am down for a shag, well when i got a little closer and saw the bulge in “her” pants, stubble on her face I ran like a monkey being shocked in a cosmetics testing facility.
