Too early?

by Clint Hosman on August 4th, 2008

How early is too early for a ride? I got up at 4 AM Saturday morning to ride for a couple hours. The heat kicked back up this week and so I wanted to get out ahead of that as well as I had some commitments to attend to early in the morning. Surprisingly it wasn’t so had to get out the door by 4:30. The only people I saw on the street were a couple hooligans, not in Evomo jerseys, cuffed on the side of the road by the police. It hit me that 4:30 is actually a late night and not in fact an early morning for most people. Before I was married I would routinely stay out that late for who knows what reason but I did it anyways. I think marriage is the only reason I actually got into cycling as much as I have because once the hunt for a women was over there ceased to be a reason to stay out late and my attention could be diverted into other directions.

So this picture is actually me not late at night but early in the morning. One of the cool things about being out that early other then there being no traffic is that by the time I was heading back in from the desert everyone else was heading out of town on the start of their rides. It’s funny the looks you get from people this early in the morning as they can tell you have been out for a while already not only because of the direction you are going but also the big light on the front of the bike is still on. Also once all my other commitments where done for the day I was able to complete all the household stuff that needed to be done by 10 AM which left the rest of the day to sit around and watch UFC fights on Spike.

The one draw back? Extremely puffy sleepy eyes for the rest of the day.

life is hard in the desert. but thanks to cable tv, UFC, beer and air conditioning we humans have defeated the earth and sun.
