What’s on your ride play list?
by Clint Hosman on August 28th, 2008
Now I know there is a group of people adamantly opposed to listening to headphones while on a ride. Those people can lick it because there is no way in heck I am riding for 3 hours by myself with nothing to listen to but the tires on the road and sissy rich kids yelling at me. They will say “but you can’t hear things coming up behind you.” and I say “like I have time to battle roll out of the way of a Mack truck anyways so I may as well go down listening to some good music.”
With that in mind I thought it would be good to put down what stood out to me last night while my Ipod was on shuffle.
#1 Queens of the Stone Age. Now I am not a stoner, never have been, so it hurts when people call this band strictly a stoner band.
#2 Kissing cousins with Queens is Eagles of Death Metal. Great band with straight up in your face rock and roll.
#3 Kylie Minogue, yea I know sounds lame and for the most part it is but whenever I hear her stuff I go right back to that video of her’s where she is walking through the club with gold booty shorts on. That is enough motivation to keep me riding all night. And as further justification here is the image moving through my head.

#4 The Killers, Travis hates them but I think if he would just give them a second listen he would hear how cool it is that they mix an 80’s vibe with modern inspiration.
#5 Less Than Jake. This always takes me back to high school and I remember thinking “I totally get this stuff.” Now when I listen to it I don’t relate so well but you cant beat horns with punk music.
So those are the ones that stood out to me last night and I prefer different music on different types of rides. When it is interval time it’s straight up metal but when it is base miles I have to have something that fits the long distance mood more

Wow Eagles of Death Metal. I don’t think many people know about them Simply a no-nonsense choice there. Kylie is hot shit I would sing along with her with that image in my head for three hours. Also to add would be the following:
1. Bloc Party
2. Kaiser Chiefs
3. Wu Tang Clan
4. Rise Against
5. NoFx

While I can appriciate all sorts of music (except country), I prefer to listen to more of a symphony of destruction while rippin & tearing up my local trails. so bring the noise:
Disturbed
Dope
Five Finger Death Punch
Korn
Marilyn Manson
Motley Crue
Mudvayne
Rammstein
just to name a few, so raise your devil fingers and tear up those trails. Later.

First of all, I must agree to the necessity of music on the long solo ride. I think it brings you to a place you might not make it to on your own. It may end up an angry, destructive place, but oh-well. My play list is as follows…
1. Rage against the machine- Call it classic or cliché, F-you, I wont do what you tell me!
2. Monster Magnet- Hard and trendy in one dirty little package.
3. Toadies- Possum kingdom, one of the best albums of all time. Do you want to die?
4. Queen- A little gay every now and then…
5. Mighty Mighty Bosstones- ska,mmmm
