Racin’ Rooster Report – 2/20/2009
by Darren on February 23rd, 2009
Well this year is off and running already, here it is almost the end of Feb and we have 2 races in the record books. This year due to the US Cycling category changes it has cause an increase in the size of the Clydesdale/Rock Crusher category. This is a good thing we are now averaging approx 14 racers per event.
The first race was held at White Tanks. This year we races in the opposite direction, amazing how this changes a track. I felt great for this race, had a good off season and was ready to crush some rocks. At the end of the 2nd lap I was in 6th and gaining on the 5th place rider. I was able to pass this rider on the long hill up to the switch backs. All was going well until I hit the technical section (on the last lap).
I got a slow leak in my front tire (rider ahead of me knocked a cactus pod onto the track and I didn’t have time to re-act). Since it was the last lap and it was a slow leak I raced on, my awesome Kenda tire could take the abuse. I was able to make it through the tech with only stopping once to pump the tire up. At this point 5th place was behind me and we were racing into the finish line. Unfortunately I lost speed coming down the slight downhill section due to my front tire. But I was able to finish in 6th place (out of 15). And I bested my time on the course.

Race two was at McDowell, which is a fast course. This race was great I was able to sport my new Evomo team gear (lookin’ like a rock star). I started off well and was in a comfortable 5th position after the first lap. The beginning of the second and final lap, we went out the Technical section. This section has two large drop-ins, because of a spectator and his dog (read blog Evomo vs. Man & Dog). By the time I recovered I was in 7th, which was my finishing position.
Amazingly though I bested my pre-ride time by 15mins.
Currently in the MBAA Point Standings I am in 4th place. My next race is this Saturday 21st at Estrella Mt.
