Evomo East Team Rider Bobby Rishel "Rish" - Tour De Tykes XC Race

Evomo East Team Rider Bobby Rishel "Rish" – Tour De Tykes XC Race

I had my 2nd race of the season on June 7th at Tour De Tykes XC Race in Danville, PA. I woke up at 6:00AM to get some breakfast in my hungry stomach to give me fuel to start my day; I headed out to the race around 8:00AM since it was an hour drive since my category start time is at 11:00AM in sunny 80 degrees weather; I arrived at 9:00AM at the race; I visited Mark at the Country Ski & Sports Tent talking to him about the course to find out there 3500’ vertical of climbing during the race then I headed over to the check in tent to get an time chip to go on my ankle and get my leg calf mark. I went back to the car to get everything setup to chill under the tent to stay out of the heat and relax a bit before getting ready. I decided to get the Evomo Team kit on to start warming up by riding around the parking lot then some guy told everyone that race meeting was in 5 minutes. Its 11:00AM now so I headed to over to the start line to find that my category was the biggest of all categories for this race, the race started out on the road leading up to a dirt road for awhile before turning into single track. I started in the back since I havn’t been on the bike much in two weeks; I was moving up thru the big gang of racers quick to attack the road climb leading to the singletrack for the next 13 miles to offer tons of long steep climbs, steep fast descents, and a few rocky sections.100_12751

I will keep this part short; I was about 10 miles into the race when I came to this steep fast decent as I am going down this part of the course; I lost controll of the bike which sent me flying over the handlebars landing face first to the hard ground that knocked the hell out of me, the race staff got me off to the side of the trail to check me for injuries after regrouping for a few minute’s; I told the race staff that I wanted to finish the race since I felt fine. I got back on my bike for the next 4 miles of hell to find out that was probably my biggest mistake of the day by trying to finish; I hiked the bike up every steep descents and rode everything else since I didn’t have much fuel in the tank anymore so I worked my way thru the course beaten up pretty bad where I came to the last check point to find out only less than an mile to the finish line. I rode across the finish line with a bent front wheel and cuts on my arms and trail rash on my face, neck and shoulders, as soon I crossed the finish line; I started to puke from having a concussion from the crash.

Evomo Team Jersey gave the course bad RUKUS

I ended up in the ER/TRAUMA Dept due to the injuries; I walked away very lucky only to have broken blood vessels in my left eye. I found out the next day that my Giro helmet did its job from not cracking my head, yep the helmet is crack and Evomo Team Jersey got ripped up bad from the crash. I will be taking some time off from racing to recover and spend time with my lovely fiancé Jennifer.

I would like to say Thanks to Evomo, Ergon, Motor Tabs, Action Wipes, Simbee, Tifosi Optics, Fluid and Titec.

The Tour de Tykes is a world class cross country mountain bike race held in Central Pennsylvania.  The name was derived from the fact that all proceeds are donated to the Children’s Miracle Network.
