The road BACK

My first race of the season was rained out. The second was canceled by a schedule conflict. In the mean time, I’m playing baseball with my sons on a Saturday. I noticed that every time I make a big move to catch a ball, it is getting increasingly hard to stand back up. We arrived back home and my oldest wanted to continue to play, so I gladly tossed the ball around. He threw one low and to my right. I quickly moved to stop the arrant ball. Once the ball was safely in my glove, I realized I could not stand upright. Each attempt to stand was met with sharp, breathtaking pain that would render my body limp. I called my son over and used his head to push myself back up. I limped inside and reported the good news to my wife. One of my favorite races was to be held on Sunday. An hour later, and I now cannot get off the couch. The pain is intense but dissipates if I lie still and don’t attempt to stand. An hour passes and I am able, with help, to get into the van and head for medical treatment. One week earlier I was tapping out a rapid tempo during a very rainy charity ride for over 100 miles, now I’m reduced to a wincing shell of a human.
The diagnosis is not good. Extreme muscle fatigue. The doctor reminds me I’m not 18 any more. I remind her that I even at my age, I’m not in the grave yet. I should have known she would have such an opinion, she was packing about 30 extra pounds around. Since she was not active, I suppose she thought no one else should be either. In her defense, she was very supportive and offered many solutions to get back in the game as fast as possible.
A month off the bike finally ended, just in time for RAIN. The 160 mile ride across Indiana. More information coming soon……

Try a few natural remedies, I think there are some natural creams that will help loosen up the muscles. Work the affected muscles everyday, stretch and use low impact exercises to help get those muscles back to normal. And hang in there.
